Born on January 7, 1920 in Harold, Kentucky, Dixie Howell (Millard Howell) played for the Cleveland Indians, Cincinnati Reds and Chicago White Sox over the course of his 6 year career. Howell broke into the bigs on September 14, 1940 with the Cleveland Indians, and put up a 2.93 ERA in 73.2 innings pitched in 1955, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Dixie Howell's best season was 1955, when he posted a 2.93 ERA.
