Born on August 28, 1946 in Topeka, Kansas, Mike Torrez (Michael Augustine Torrez) played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Montreal Expos, Baltimore Orioles, Oakland Athletics, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox and New York Mets over the course of his 18 year career. Torrez broke into the bigs on September 10, 1967 with the St. Louis Cardinals, and put up a 3.59 ERA in 107.2 innings pitched in 1969, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Mike Torrez's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1975, when he posted a 3.06 ERA, won 20 games and struck out 119 batters. However, others believe that it was 1976, when he posted a 2.50 ERA, won 16 games and struck out 115 batters.
