Born on January 21, 1955 in Centerville, Tennessee, Mike Smithson (Billy Mike Smithson) played for the Texas Rangers, Minnesota Twins and Boston Red Sox over the course of his 8 year career. Smithson broke into the bigs on August 27, 1982 with the Texas Rangers, and put up a 3.91 ERA in 223.1 innings pitched in 1983, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Mike Smithson's best season was 1984, when he posted a 3.68 ERA, won 15 games and struck out 144 batters.
