Mike Akiu (Karl Michael Akiu) was born on February 12, 1962 in Kailua, Hawaii. After going to high school at Kalaheo (Kailua, HI), Akiu attended the University of Hawaii and Washington State Universtiy. Akiu made his professional debut in the NFL in 1985 with the Houston Oilers. He played for the Houston Oilers for his entire 2 year career.

Most people believe that 1986 was Mike Akiu's best year.
