[edit] Biography

Born on April 29, 1929 in Poughkeepsie, New York, Mickey McDermott (Maurice Joseph McDermott) played for the Boston Red Sox, Washington Senators, New York Yankees, Kansas City Athletics, Detroit Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals over the course of his 12 year career. McDermott broke into the bigs on April 24, 1948 with the Boston Red Sox, and put up a 4.05 ERA in 80 innings pitched in 1949, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Mickey McDermott's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1953, when he posted a 3.01 ERA, won 18 games and struck out 92 batters. However, others believe that it was 1951, when he posted a 3.35 ERA and struck out 127 batters.
