Michigan-Notre Dame…

I ask, is this the most hyped up game ever with both teams coming in at 0-2? I would definitely say, um, yeah! Although in the longest history of these top two winningest football programs in Division I this has never happened before…Hey, ABC/ESPN has to generate the hype somewhere for peeps to tune in on Saturday at 3:30. Or they can dub it the "Toilet Bowl", because in essence that’s what it really is! Good news, (or is it bad news) the rules of NCAA Football "some suck ass team will win, posting a 1-2 mark and some sorry ass team will head back to their dorms Saturday night still staring at a big goose egg in the win column".
Both teams arrived at the same rest area traveling along the same highway headed for Loserville with entirely different directions. Contraire to popular belief, AKA Charlie Weis’s logical thinking…Weis stating in some form of context that this season wasn’t going to be a rebuilding one. Yeah, sure it wasn’t…And Hugh Hefner doesn’t have a lifetime prescription for Viagra either! How quickly the tune changed after Georgia Tech dispelled any hopes that it wasn’t indeed going to be exactly what he said it wouldn’t…A rebuilding season in South Bend! Why, we’ve seen better YMCA offense and Powderpuff offenses than the one under the Golden Dome! Conversely, everybody was drinking the ole Michigan Wolverine kool-aid…Preseason top five. Three critical playmakers back on offense…The Maize & Blue were sure to make noise this season! And oh, they have…Falling on their face in the opening game against Appy and then doing their best impression of a YMCA team against Oregon. There’s just one thing I have to say…See what happens when you don’t ask for directions!
Wait, I got it…Instead of the "Toilet Bowl", let’s dub it the "Mallett-Clausen Bowl"! With Chad Henne, (one of the three critical playmakers back on offense) a scratch on Saturday…Why it makes perfect sense too! Both are only a couple months removed from trying to find homecoming dates, getting grounded for staying out past curfew, and laying bloody vengeance on rival high school football teams. Although on Saturday both have the same jobs…Trying to guide two of the most storied programs, while making enough plays on offense in the process to come out with a victory. What’d know…Not only do viewers get to see two storied programs try and get their first win, but two true freshmen quarterbacks slug it out…Glorified YMCA football at it’s finest! Although parental guidance is heavily advised!
So who will win on Saturday? Good question! However, more importantly where does the loser of this game go from here? Whichever team shows that they can’t beat an 0-2 team, then you definitely start looking down at the schedule saying and wondering "Man, who can they beat!" Chances are there’s a good chance this might very well be Lloyd Carr’s last game on the Michigan sidelines if Weis’s bunch gets the best of him, however this year, like it or not, (see Tyrone Willingham) Charlie gets a pass! Although, I will say if Willingham’s Kennels bite the Buckeyes in the ass this weekend and Notre Dame drops to 0-3, oh man…And we thought Michael Vick had serious issues!
So who will win on Saturday…That’s the million dollar question! Although allow me to suggest something to CW! You might want to scrap the run right, run left, run up the middle, and screen pass playbook….Um yeah, it’s not working! Although here’s something that has been noted very successful against the Wolverines in the "Big House" no less…It’s called spread offense! What else do you have to lose? What, another game? That’s comical right there!
So in a game that gives you two of the most recognized schools in college football sharing the same ungodly record…Starting two true freshmen under center…Two coaches who seem to be on the Budweiser Hot Seat, (although Carr’s is at a much higher temperature )…And oh, let’s not forget Mike Hart thinking he’s Joe Namath with his guarantees and what not. Yes, this game seems to have it all…And it will also have a winner, although being by default no less! So who will it be? I say Carr keeps his job for one more week and Hail to the Victories will be blaring louder than the Notre Dame Victory March! Score…Michigan 27 – Notre Dame 14 (one defensive touchdown). So that’s mine…What’s yours?
