Here is some more good news:
The man who oversaw one of the greatest turnarounds in NHL history last season is staying put with the young talent he used to orchestrate that turnaround. The Penguins added a one year extension to Michel Therrien's contract.
Think about this: The guy has one of the greatest couching years in the the history of the NHL. He has that core group of men that played last season returning this season. They are very young men. Who should have another great year. Which means the couch will have another good year.
Two spectacular season in a row looks really, really good on a resume and could push his pay up.
Now look at what happened:
> "It never crossed my mind, I'm not a guy who likes to shop around," said Therrien
. I LOVE THIS MAN! Look at the loyalty he has to his team, to his employer and to the City of Pittsburgh!
> "He wasn't going anywhere, Nor did he want to go anywhere...He's always been very loyal to the people he's worked for," said Ray Shero (General Manager).
According to report the two had started negotiations on an extension shortly after the 06-07 season. But they wanted to take it step-by-step since they both wanted to concentrate on the entry draft and free agency. After they tackled those issues they tackled the contract extension.
> "Hopefully, this is something that's going to turn into something that's even more long-term," said Shero.
Therrien led the Penguins to a 47-24-11 record last season, his first full one behind their bench. That was good for 105 points, the second-highest total in franchise history and was a 47-point improvement over the Penguins' 2005-06 total.
