Michel Briere was selected in the 3rd round (#26 overall) in the 1969 NHL Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins. In his only season with the Penguins he became a key contributor to a team that made it's way to the second round of the 1969-70 Stanley Cup Playoffs. His totals for the 1969-70 season were 12 goals and 44 points.
Briere's life was cut short when he was involved in an automobile accident near his hometown on May 15, 1970. He ultimately passed away from injuries sustained in that crash on April 13, 1971.
Briere's jersey number 21 has been retired by the Penguins.
