Michael Vick Pleads Guilty

14
Vote

by ScottVanPeltStyle.com

Michael Vick has accepted a deal to plead guilty to a federal conspiracy charge of traveling in interstate commerce in aid of unlawful activities related to dogfighting. It brings to a widely predicted conclusion the saga that has taken Michael Vick from the top of the sports world to the very bottom of everyone's list.

Now his professional and personal life hang in the balance, as a decision has yet to be made about how long his jail sentence will be, and how it will impact his future in the NFL. The league has already set a precedent for individuals violating its personal conduct policy, and Vick's punishment will probably surpass Adam 'Pacman' Jones' one-year suspension for detrimental conduct.

After plea deals from his co-defendants all but sealed his fate, it had been reported that additional charges from the State of Virginia and the federal government would be levied against Vick had he not opted to plead guilty. Now the world will watch and wait for the final act of this supreme fall from grace.

Wow, if they put Jones and Vick in the same jail as Rae Carruth we could have a real life version of "The Longest Yard" but the guards won't stand a chance.

I disagree. He will likely get a very good deal for pleading this early. It is not inconceivable that he gets a deal that allows him to serve his jail time during the off-season in addition to other punishment. He may miss one season because of suspension, but I bet any jail time is worked out so he can continue his career.

There is a difference. Would you want a guy who has a checkered past on your team?

Checkered past is one thing SS...Vick is way more complicated...its not like adding an ex-con lineman or LB or even WR (think TO)...the QB is the leader of a club and must interact with everyone...its very risky for a club, jsut from a personnel standpoint...

nevermind the PR nightmare many of you have mentioned...

But, as time moves on, and Vick is freed, I think a team will sign him...a team that's either desperate/stupid (Raiders) or a team on a downward slope from being competitive, looking for 1 last shot

I thought the same thing at first but...

Did you think the Falcons were going to be good this year?

If you say no, then whats the difference...get value for shaub when you can and start to rebuild...

If anyone should be pissed, it should be Joe Horn...

If anyone should be pissed, it should be Bobby Petrino. First year head coach, and he deals with this crap. Jim Mora went at the right time.

No, Petrino is happy as a Georgia Peach...

No matter what happens this season, he'll get no heat...

I guarantee you, he never liked vick and/or didn't want him as the QB longterm...but Vick was Arthur Blank's boy...however that trust has been betrayed...now Petrino can go 3-13 this season and Draft...Brian Brohm from Louisville ; - )

You're still right about Mora though...but he left for a different reason... You think he went to seattle because no one offered him a job? Nope, he went to be in Washington state, where he can hopefully catch on with the University relatively soon...

It's over for Vick. Any team short of a pick-up game in Hampton Roads would face a PR nightmare for signing Vick, and even the pick-up game might be a little hesitant to make that move.

Cmon. I own a bulldog as evidenced by my avator, but even I don't think that Vick would be a PR nightmare. There are plenty of deplorable human beings who play and have played football. I don't think that running a deplorable dog fighting ring will resonate with NFL fans and players such that Vick is seen as a Pariah. One thing though. Who woulda thought that Michael Vick would get thrown out of the NFL before Marcus!!

Vick will probably get another shot, maybe 2-3 years down the line. My problem is this: In addition to being a bad guy, Michael Vick's just not that good of a QB, so the inevitable second chance he's going to get isn't justified, either from a character standpoint or a football standpoint.

A few comments.

The word is that the plea agreement contains a sentence in Federal Prison of 18-36 months. Since most federal criminals serve 85% of their sentence, Vick is looking at 15-30 months. Does anyone remember how Jamal Lewis performed after his little stint in prison.

If the plea agreement includes anything about financing the gambling, Vick could be looking at a lifetime ban. The NFL is extremely strict when it comes to gambling violations.

I totally agree. The gambling aspect is the most vital part of his plea deal. If he financed gambling on dogfighting, he's gone for good!
