Michael Vick's Future

13
Vote

by JMoffat

News has been released that Vick's co-defendants have said that not only did Vick help fund the dog fighting ring, he also killed off dogs that were weak fighters. Co-defendants said that Vick assisted in hanging the dogs, and if they survived that, submerging their head underwater until they died.

The argument has begun as to whether Michael Vick will ever play football again.

I think he shouldn't ever be able to play again.

My roommate says he will play again like nothing happened, just because he's Mike Vick, and he's that good.

Many people say that he should try to sign with the Arena Football League, or even the Canadian Football League.

What do you guys think?

Will Mike Vick ever play again?

I think Vick is the most overrated athlete of my generation. I don't want him to play football ever again, but I have a feeling one team is going to be crazy enough to take a chance on him once he serves his time, if he's convicted or takes a plea deal.

I certainly hope not. It's time to make and example and clean this situation up.

BTW, I think Ryan Leaf may be slightly more over-rated but at this point we're splitting hairs.

Finally, of greater weight is the fact that the co-defendants have stated that Vick financed the operation and more importantly, the gambling. The gambling violation alone carries the option of a lifetime ban from the NFL. I have read that it is very clearly stated in every NFL contract

Can you say "Raiders"? Or is he more of a natural fit in Cincy when he gets out of the clink?

Bengals vs Raiders in a gang street war. Winner gets Vick. NFL Network to host special pay per view. LT and Irvin to broadcast the event with a bag of blow and a couple of hookers. This stuff writes itself....

Any truth to the rumor that Fox approached Vick on a new reality based program centering around an imprisoned quarterback overcoming adversity to lead a team of cons against the guards in an exhibition football game.....

What purpose would signing Vick do the Raiders at any point? They drafted Russell #1 overall for a reason, and by the time Vick gets around to playing, his skills will have atrophied to the point where he is a mere shadow of his former self.

Hard to tell. Whoever picks him up after his bid faces an immediate PR nightmare, plus his skills will be severely rusty.

Assuming he gets out of prison before his 50th birthday? One of the charges against him is felony operation of a gambling ring. Once all the other stuff is out of the way, Roger Goodell will suspend Vick for life for violating the NFL's gambling policy. Vick will never play again.

Vick was supposed to plea out today. If he didn't, he's in a whole lot of trouble. His football career is over. He wanted to this dogfighting, which is wrong, and get himself in deeper trouble. To me, that's his fault and he deserves to rot in prison for 6 years.

I can't imagine he'll play in the NFL any time soon. Let's say he takes a plea and serves 8 months (effectively, one season). Let's also say that he gets a 4 game suspension, which he'd serve after the suspension. That's probably his best case scenario, and it means that he's out for the next season plus a quarter of the year after. If you're the Falcons, you probably cut him and sue to get out of the contract the day the sentences are handed down. Who is going to sign him a year later, knowing he's going to be the subject of protests and, oh yeah, suspended?

Even then...when does the trial start...then once he is convicted/plea bargains there's more time...even in the best case scenario dan, he's looking at a solid 2 years of no football...Mo Clarett 2.0?

Vick has evolved from having unlimited potential to being the most overrated, overhyped athlete in sports. With these serious character problems along with his very average performance, he shouldn't get another NFL job. That said, unless he's banned for life a la Pete Rose, of course someone will sign him.

The inmate who sued Michael Vick has sued many other people, including LeBron James, Barry Bonds, and Tony Montana.

Mike Vick will probably play again, but his story will probably turn out worse than the Ricky Williams story. First, Vick will get suspended for the rest of this season and all of the next. Then he'll go to jail for a few months. In the summer of 2009, he'll sign with someone (Patriots, Raiders, or someone really desperate), and he'll be a big disappointment. Maybe if he could be used at RB or WR, who knows. But his QB days are probably over.
