Michael Strahan Considering Retirement

by Brendan.Canney

If things weren't bad enough for the New York Football Giants after Tiki Barber decided to retire, their 7-time pro bowl defensive end is considering it.

After failing to report to training camp today, it was learned through Michael Strahan's agent that he is mulling retirement. Strahan missed half of the Giants games last year because of a foot injury and would be entering his 15th season. The single season sack leader (22.5) could not be reached by Giants head coach Tom Coughlin who expressed his disappointment with Strahan not reporting for the first day of camp.

After an extremely mediocre 8-8 season last year, many were expecting Tom Coughlin to be fired, but sure enough he is still the head coach. Chances that he won't be back after this season certainly are increasing however. With their best offensive player in Tiki Barber retiring and now their best defensive player considering it, Coughlin's pink slip could be coming sooner than later.

Maybe we won't have to see this again.

Since when is it big news when a 14 year football veteran mulls retirement? Hes no spring chicken anymore and it seems they could find much younger bodies to fill his oft injured void.

Its all about what have you done for me lately. He missed half the season in 04 and about half the season in 06. You really couldn't expect too much more out of a 35 year old defensive lineman.

You forgot to mention his 2005 season in which he had 11.5 sacks. Even if his production were to waiver, which it probably would, he is a leader and a presence. If he leaves, who will then take that role? Shockey? Plaxico? Mann....nevermind.

The timing is terrible for the Giants. There options are starting a nobody or signing someone who just got cut...

According to the NFL Network Simeon Rice is going to pay a visit to the Giants on Monday and then the Titans. It looks like everything will have a happy ending after all.

Strahan wants a raise because he was cleaned out in a divorce by his ex wife. If the Giants pony up, this retirement talk ends. Strahan, nevertheless, has hit a new low with this retirement crap.

Strahan ought to play for one more season. He has given the Giants no way of finding a replacement (FA, draft), so out of respect for them, he should play this season. At least Favre lets the Packers know his decisions in plenty of time for the draft.

Well his replacement would be Mathias Kiwanuka who would move from SLB.

As a Redskins fan, I hate Strahan's breathing guts, but I really admire the way he has comported himself throughout his career. He's a likely Hall-of-Famer, and there's still plenty of gas left in his tank.

However, this is a crappy way to treat the Giants. No notice, just not showing up for camp? That's bush league, man.

If Tiki was still on the team, Strahan would be there.

Strahan better hope to find another high paying gig. Alimony is a bitch!

He's past his prime, but the team needs him, at the very least to help with all the young kids and buy them some time to find a replacement.
