Miami Player Pata Shot And Killed

In yet another blow to the University of Miami football program, Hurricanes player Bryan Pata was shot and killed in his apartment complex Tuesday night -- just hours after finishing practice, according to school sources.

Pata's body was found near the parking lot of his apartment complex, which is about four miles from Miami's campus, according to the Miami-Dade police department. Pata was pronounced dead on the scene, and police have ruled his death a homicide.

Pata, a 6-foot-4, 280-pound senior defensive end, was expected to be taken in the NFL Draft next spring.

That's just effed up. Of course, we'll never know the WHOLE story, but that sucks for any player/program to have to deal with...

This whole Sports department needs to be gutted, perhaps even disbanded. And maybe it should start with a restructuring that ousts the university president. The city of Miami is a very dangerous place to run a rogue football president. This is just one more devestating piece of evidence.

I agree. At this point, Miami needs to blow it up and start over. They need to replace every one from the school president to the athletic director, and certainly everyone in the football program. There have been too many incidents both on and off the field this season for the Hurricanes. Radical changes are necessary.

Why are you calling for the President's Head. The football team is only one facet of the University. Often times the most visible, but hardly enough to fire a university president over. She has multiple other resposibilities that she may be doing a stellar job at, this is hardly an incident that can be called her fault.
