Since I couldn't watch the Pittsburgh Steelers game, I had to settle for the "game of pride" between two non-playoff teams, and it actually was a pretty good game, with a good outcome.
The now 1-13 Miami Dolphins picked up their first win of the season, snapping their 16 game losing streak in the process. Miami defeated the 4-10 Baltimore Ravens 22-16 in OT, after Miami QB, Cleo Lemon, threw a short pass to former SD Charger receiver, Greg Camarillo, which he turned into a GW 64-yard TD catch.
Rain poured down out of the sky for a majority of the game in Miami, which appeared to affect the game's outcome. Both offenses started a little shaky, but there was just 1 total turnover (Kyle Boller INT) all game, which is a good thing for these turnover-prone teams. Baltimore struck first with a Matt Stover 27-yard FG with 9:28 left in the first, which ended up being the only points of the opening quarter. The two teams exchanged FG's again in the second QTR, Stover added a 39-yarder, and Miami Kicker Jay Feely put the 'Fins on the board with a 23-yard FG with just over 3 to go in the half, to make it a 6-3 ballgame.
Just before intermission, Baltimore's Kyle Boller led the Ravens offense on an 8 play, 73 yard scoring drive, which ended with Boller throwing to veteran Derrick Mason, for a 17-yard scoring hookup. After Miami had a 3 & out, they punted to Baltimore, who tried to score again before the half, with a 50-yard attempt by Stover, but DE Jason Taylor blocked the kick, and the Ravens went into the locker room with a comfortable 13-3 lead.
That 10-point lead seemed pretty comfortable at the time, but Miami quickly changed that after going on a 10 play, 50 yard scoring drive on their second possession of the half. The drive took about 4 minutes off the clock, and ended when Samkon Gado ran the ball in from 7 yards out. And, just like that, Miami was back in it. The 'Fins intercepted Boller during Baltimore's ensuing drive, Miami took advantage of the turnover, and cashed in 15 plays later when kicker Jay Feely made his second of three FG's (22-yards), which tied the game up at 13 with 12 minutes left in the game. Baltimore continued to struggle on their next drive, going 3 & out, again, on third and 11, Kyle Boller was hit as he threw by Vonnie Holliday, Boller was slow to get up, and didn't return to the game, later it was said he had suffered a mild concussion. Miami got the ball at their own 37-yard line after Ted Ginn Jr. returned Sam Koch's punt for 12 yards. It appeared as though Miami was going to get into the end zone, picking up 2 FD's, but their drive stalled, and they were forced to punt after Cleo Lemon was sacked for a loss of 7 on 3rd & 10.
So, rookie QB, Troy Smith, last year's Heisman Trophy winner out of the Ohio State University, got his second appearance of the season, but his first drive didn't go anywhere, after 2 straight incomplete passes, and another 3 & out for Baltimore. Lemon, and his offense was able to put together another long scoring drive, after Feely capped their 11 play, 43-yard drive with his 3rd FG of the day, making a 29-yarder. Troy Smith got a chance to lead his team to victory, as he came out with 1:56 left on the clock, and his team down 3. Smith looked pretty good, as he took the Ravens on a 11 play, 59-yard drive which took just 1:48 off the clock, and setup an easy 18-yard game-tying FG attempt for automatic Matt. Which, of course Stover nailed, and Lemon took a knee, and sent the game to OT.
Baltimore won the toss, and of course elected to receive the ball. Smith came out again, and got right back to work. Baltimore's offense moved the ball all the way down to the MIA 26-yard line, and Stover attempted a 44-yard FG, which, by the way, Stover can kick in his sleep, BUT, he surprised EVERYONE, and hooked it wide left. Miami took over, and on the third play Lemon threw a short pass to Camarillo, who ran it the rest of the way for a 64-yard GW TD catch. MIAMI WINS, MIAMI WINS!!!!!
The Ravens really need a change at the Head Coach position, Billick must want out of there. Why keep him at coach, it's not working out, Baltimore deffinitely needs a change, or two.
Notes: Boller, and Ray Lewis both left with injuries. Boller suffered a mild concussion, and Lewis a dislocated finger.
