MMmmm didnt see that one coming. At least they didnt waste anytime in making this move. Now the bigger question, will the Ole Ball Coach Steve Spurrier make his way down to Cane country?

That's a bad decision. Who else is there going to be to replace him that has a better record than that!?

I disagree with that. The brawl made it easier to fire him. But a terrible performance in the Peach Bowl last season, and then 6-6 this year is what cost Coker his job. He was on the hot seat coming into the year, adn did absolutly nothing to persuade the authorities otherwise

No brawl=No Fire That brawl symbolized the fact that Coker lost control of the program. It showcased all the thugs too. If you are going to have thugs.... than you better win games.

The Brawl was the cherry ontop of the icing on the cake. You forget the first brawl against Tenn last year. The handwriting was on the wall for Coker it was a question of when not if. Only a national title could have saved him going into this season

I was at the game last night and for the first time all season (aside from the brawl) The Canes showed some emotion. That's why it was shocking to wake up this morning and hear the news. I suspect they knew beforehand and were showcasing for a new coach since they have been a lifeless bunch all season long. Regarding the Thug argument, I am not sure which team you support but you'd be surprised. Under Coker UM had far fewer player arrests than most BCS conference schools. Yes the brawl with FIU was a disgrace, but the fact is more bad kids who can be classified as "thugs" because they harm society go elsewhere, places like Tennessee where a whole wing of a prison could be dedicated to the team.

It was comming, but it wasn't right. He had a bad season, so What? Miami was a good team in the past few years. Not a great team, but a good team. I can't say I would have done differently as the AD, but that doesn't make it right

I afree FP. Coker is not a bad coach by any streatch of the imagination. He had a very young team (4 Seniors played on Thurs). Next year Miami will be stacked and back in the title hunt no matter who coaches them. Coker just had to be the fall man for the whole hurricane program.

IT just happened that in a year the School Expected the program to become a team playing on New Year's eve, or close to it, but it wasn't able to be done this year, so he took the fall

I think the big question is what does Miami do if they can't get Schiano?

Haha, easy beast. Schiano is building a house in Piscataway, NJ. I don't think he is leaving in the near future, unless it was for Penn State in a few years. Rutgers is already working up plans to increase the capacity of their stadium to 80K, he has a great facility there and now finally some quality recruits, why leave? I'm thinking he will stay at Rutgers for awhile...

I know that he has said he doesn't want to, but what about Spurrier from South Carolina? Any shot?

Thats what Id like to see. But Miami despite all the glitch and glamer, they do not have a lot of money to spend, and they have horrible facilities. All that money from those NFL players is not trickling back into the program. What all that means is Miami does not have a lot of money to spend on coaches. Especially after playing Coker a hefty sum to leave. So to get Spurrier out of his deal at SC will cost Miami a lot of money. Remember it cost SC a membership to Augusta along with salary.

Neither Schiano or Spurrier is coming to Miami based on what I have heard. The facilities as you said are horrible and the school is undertaking a capital project to improve them. Combine them with the buyouts of Coker and Perry Clark and you have very little $$$ to spend on a new coach. Either Randy Shannon gets promoted to HC or a coordinator somewhere like Gene Chizik gets the job. Or of course maybe Barry Alvarez leaves retirement.

I cant imagine they would promote a guy from within. It makes sense from a monitary standpoiint. But I dont think it will be enough to calm the angry alumn. Also I would not be suprised if Miami wants to move completlly away from the Coker era
