After losing six of their past seven the New York Mets have now won their second consecutive game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Mets rode seven scoreless innings from Orlando Hernandez, who picked up his 5th win of the season and 3rd as a Met. Hernandez relied on his off-speed arsenel having thrown pitches in the 50, 60, 70, 80, and 90 MPH zones. By night's end the Mets staff combined for their 5th shutout this season.
Offensively, the Mets accounted for all five runs in the first inning. Jose Reyes lead off with his 12th triple of the year and subsequently scored. He is now on pace for 142 runs scored, 72 stolen bases and 23 triples. All would be New York Mets records.
The Mets will go for the series win tomorrow with Tom Gorzelanny going against Steve Trachsel.
