Mets Trade Kaz Matsui to Rockies for Eli Marrero

13
Vote

The NY Post is reporting that the New York Mets traded Kazuo Matsui to the Rockies for Eli Marrero. This was a move made to make room for when Xavier Nady returns from the disabled list. Matsui was benched in favor of Jose Valentin just over a week ago, and with the strong play of Lastings Milledge, someone has to go. Nady may be activated as early as Tuesday.

I'd be surprised if they could trade him for anything more than a C-list prospect. And of course, they'd have to pay most of his salary. But I guess they're doing that anyway!

So, who wrote an article on April 16th called "Questioning the Mets Lineup" saying Valentin should be the Mets starter at second base...oh, that was me.

Nice call Bball. I hope they cut him. I would hate to see Lastings get sent down.

I agree... Lastings is definitely ready for the bigs, but Nady deserves to play every day as well. They could definitely platoon Nady and Floyd. Nady crushes lefties and Floyd can't hit them(2/30 this year).

Christof, if Nady comes back they don't have room on the roster for both Nady and Millege. That means they have to cut one of their players. They could move down Chavez who has been pretty good or they will have to get rid of Kaz. Most likely they will get rid of Kaz.

This is going to sound stupid, but Can Millidge play CF and Beltran move to the infield?

Beltran is such a good defensive centerfielder. I don't know if you want to move him. Neither of them have any experience at 2B if that is what you are getting at.

Beltran is a good CF, but there are a significant amount of other players I'd rather have out there. Lets face it, the guys value is in his hitting not fielding. What I was wonder was could either play infield (probably not) and possibly move people around. I guess until floyd comes back I'd keep Beltran (CF), Milledge (LF) and Nady (RF). I don't know what you guys keep endy chavez around, he sucks (I think he's played on every NL East team except the braves!)

Yanks are shopping for an outfielder, milledge (preferably) or nady would fit the bill...

They won't get Milledge... hopefully they will go after Burnitz(coming from a Pirates fan).

They just traded Kaz to the Rockies for Marrero. Did they really need him?

About time they got rid of Matsui, who ended up being optioned by the Rockies to their triple A minor league ball club. He doesnt even deserve to be in A ball. He's terrible.

Great move by the Mets. As a die hard Mets fan, if I had to watch Matsui's front shoulder fly open on every swing and watch him pop out every at-bat, I think I was going to hurl. Whomever that scout was that said he was better than Hidecki Matsui deserves to never work in baseball again.

Omar Minaya is either a magician or a genius. I think the latter.

We get rid rid of Julio and get a legit starter for our pitching hole in one deal

And then we get rid of Matsui and get a corner outfielder in another

WOW, I would taken getting rid of those two, or just filling in the holes. He did both in oth deals. AMAZIN'. I know it's early but Executive of the Year hands down.
