The Cleveland Indians designated reliever Guillermo Mota for assignment on Aug. 11 and have finally found a taker in the New York Mets.
Mota, who was acquired by the Indians from the Boston Red Sox in the January Coco Crisp was sent to the AL East leaders for a player to be named or cash to be decided by Sept. 29.
Mota was designated for assignment after posting a 1-3 record and 6.21 ERA in 34 outings this year.
At the time of the Crisp trade, Mota considered a key acquisition because the veteran was expected to serve as the primary setup man. However, after starting the season poorly, Mota relegated to spot assignments often in blowouts.
