Mets Call Up Lastings Milledge

12
Vote

The New York Mets will call up prospect Lastings Milledge to replace injured Xavier Nady in the roster. Xavier Nady is expected to miss about three weeks following an appendectomy. The Mets have not commented on whether Milledge will start in right field tonight, but all indications seem that it is likely.

My bet is that he never goes back down to the minors.

I hope that's the case, though that would be too bad for Nady. He's been solid all year and wouldn't deserve to sit. It would also make me more upset that the Mets traded Mike Cameron for him. Center fielders were in rediculous demand this offseason and as much as I've liked Nady, the Mets could have gotten more.

Nady's been great. The reason the Mets moved Cameron was to get rid of his inflated salary. Once the Mets loose Crap-sui's inflated salary this year, they won't have the over-paid deadweight players that have plagued them since 2000.

I doubt Nady will sit. Floyd is struggling mightily and, if Milledge shows he's ready for the Show, will probably start over Cliff versus lefties. Willie can slot Lastings in for Nady every third game versus a RHP, and every so often for Beltran. And Nady can also spell Delgado occasionally (although you'd do that against a LHP, too). The better question, though: What do the Mets do with Victor Diaz?

Nady doesn't fit into the Mets future. Milledge does. If Milledge is producing at the same level of Nady and Floyd's production bounces back up, why would you sit Milledge and/or Cliff? That makes no sense. Nady will lose ABs under that scenario.

I think the Mets will trade Diaz before the end of the year for some bullpen help or for a 2B.

Nady totally fits in. He's not a free agent for two or three years, and will be a bargain at arbitration. That's why the Mets got him. The Mets OF next year will be Milledge-Beltran-Nady.

I think DNL is right on this one. Floyd is in his last year as a Met. Milledge will be the starting LFer next year. I am excited to see him play tonight. They did not call him up to sit him in the bench!

Actually, I'm a tad wrong. Milledge would start in RF, and Nady would move to left, because Nady is not nearly as good defensively as Milledge (or even Todd Hundley).

Nady is better than Todd Hundley. He is simply an average OFer defensively.

Cliff Floyd Is starting to come around, he's raised his BA over 30 points in the last few weeks. Milledge has a great future, but he will only get a brief taste this time around. They'll send him down when Nady gets healthy, and will recall him in September when the rosters expand to 40. Next year is going to be his year. This year Nady Beltran FLoyd will suffice.

Anyone catch Milledge's first AB tonight? Damn what a liner. You can definitely see that his bat speed is tremendous. He could be a good one.

I agree with Jetsrsuper on this one. I think our playoff outfield will be Nady-Beltran-Floyd.

isnt floyds contract up after this year? I can't see the mets resigning him due to age and injury history.
