Mervyn Fernandez (Mervyn Fernandez) was born on December 29, 1959 in Merced, California. After going to high school at Andrew Hill (San Jose, CA), Fernandez attended DeAnza JC and San Jose State University.

Fernandez went on to play in the Canadian Football League for the British Columbia Lions. He was a member of B.C.'s Grey Cup championship team in 1985 and also won the CFL's Most Outstanding Player Award following the season.

Following the 1986 season, he was persuaded by Al Davis to join the NFL and Fernandez did so, making his debut in the NFL in 1987 with the Los Angeles Raiders. He played for the Los Angeles Raiders for his entire 6 year career.

Most people believe that 1989 was Mervyn Fernandez's best year in the NFL, as he hauled in 57 receptions, had 1069 receiving yards and caught 9 TD passes, though that doesn't compare to his 1985 season with the B.C. Lions when he had 95 catches for 1,727 yards and 15 touchdowns.
