Merritt Ranew (Merritt Thomas Ranew) was born on May 10, 1938 in Albany, Georgia. He made his Major League debut on April 13, 1962 for the Houston Colt .45s. In 1962, his rookie year, he hit .234 with 4 home runs and 24 RBI. Ranew played for the Houston Colt .45s, Chicago Cubs, Milwaukee Braves, California Angels and Seattle Pilots over the course of his 5 year career.

Most people believe that Merritt Ranew's best season was 1963, when he hit for a .338 average.
