Merl Combs (Merrill Russell Combs) was born on December 11, 1919 in Los Angeles, California. He made his Major League debut on September 12, 1947 for the Boston Red Sox. In 1952, his rookie year, he hit .165 with 1 home run and 10 RBI. Combs played for the Boston Red Sox, Washington Senators and Cleveland Indians over the course of his 5 year career.
