Mel West (Melvin Gerald West) was born on January 14, 1939 in Columbia, Missouri. After going to high school at Jefferson City (MO), West attended the University of Missouri. West made his professional debut in the AFL in 1961 with the New York Titans. He played for the New York Titans for his entire 2 year career.
Most people believe that 1961 was Mel West's best year.
