Mel Tom (Melvyn M. Tom) was born on August 4, 1941 in Honolulu, Hawaii. After going to high school at Maryknoll (Honolulu, HI)#, Tom attended City College of San Francisco, San Jose State University and the University of Hawaii. Tom made his professional debut in the NFL in 1967 with the Philadelphia Eagles. He played for the Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears over the course of his 9 year career.

Most people believe that 1973 was Mel Tom's best year.
