Mel Renfro (Melvin Lacy Renfro) was born on December 30, 1941 in Houston, Texas. After going to high school at Jefferson (Portland, OR), Renfro attended the University of Oregon. Renfro made his professional debut in the NFL in 1964 with the Dallas Cowboys. He played for the Dallas Cowboys for his entire 14 year career.

Most people believe that 1964 was Mel Renfro's best year, as he picked off 7 passes, ran back an interception for a touchdown, had 418 punt return yards, ran back a punt for a touchdown and had 1017 kick return yards.
