Mel Long (Melvin Long, Sr.) was born on November 22, 1946 in Toledo, Ohio. After going to high school at Macomber (Toledo, OH), Long attended the University of Toledo. Long made his professional debut in the NFL in 1972 with the Cleveland Browns. He played for the Cleveland Browns for his entire 3 year career.

Most people believe that 1973 was Mel Long's best year.
