Mel Land (Melvin Land) was born on November 30, 1955 in Youngstown, Ohio. After going to high school at Memorial (Campbell, OH), Land attended Michigan State University. Land made his professional debut in the NFL in 1979 with the Miami Dolphins. He played for the San Francisco 49ers and Miami Dolphins over the course of his 2 year career.

Most people believe that 1979 was Mel Land's best year.
