Mel Holmes (Melvin Holmes) was born on January 22, 1950 in Miami, Florida. After going to high school at Mays (Miami, FL), Holmes attended North Carolina A&T State University. Holmes made his professional debut in the NFL in 1971 with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He played for the Pittsburgh Steelers for his entire 3 year career.
