Mel Hein (Melvin John Hein) was born on August 22, 1909 in Redding, California. After going to high school at Fairhaven (Bellingham, WA), Hein attended Washington State Universtiy. Hein made his professional debut in the NFL in 1931 with the New York Giants. He played for the New York Giants for his entire 15 year career.

Most people believe that 1944 was Mel Hein's best year, as he picked off 3 passes.
