Born on October 15, 1909 in Beemer, Nebraska, Mel Harder (Melvin Leroy Harder) played for the Cleveland Indians for his entire 20 year career. Harder broke into the bigs on April 24, 1928 with the Cleveland Indians, and put up a 4.21 ERA in 175.1 innings pitched in 1930, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Mel Harder's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1935, when he posted a 3.29 ERA, won 22 games and struck out 95 batters. However, others believe that it was 1934, when he posted a 2.61 ERA, won 20 games and struck out 91 batters.
