Mel Groomes (Melvin Harold Groomes) was born on March 6, 1927 in Trenton, New Jersey. After going to high school at Trenton (NJ), Groomes attended Indiana University. Groomes made his professional debut in the NFL in 1948 with the Detroit Lions. He played for the Detroit Lions for his entire 2 year career.
Most people believe that 1949 was Mel Groomes's best year.
