Mel Almada (Baldomero Melo (Quiros) Almada) was born on February 7, 1913 in Huatabampo, Sonora (Mexico). He made his Major League debut on September 8, 1933 for the Boston Red Sox. In 1935, his rookie year, he hit .290 with 3 home runs and 59 RBI. Almada played for the Boston Red Sox, Washington Senators, St. Louis Browns and Brooklyn Dodgers over the course of his 7 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was Mel Almada's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1938, when he hit for a .311 average and knocked in 52 runs. However, others believe that it was 1935, when he hit for a .290 average and knocked in 59 runs.
