Meet the Young Guns

Today sees Arsenal face Newcastle United in a third round match in the Carling Cup. In the past Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has used this competition to blood a great number of the club's young players. It appears that Wenger will be following that same policy in this season's competition as well. The club has had success in the Carling Cup recently as well, it seems the Young Guns use the Carling Cup to gain valuable experience. In three of the last four seasons Arsenal have reached the Semi-Final of the competition and of course last season the Young Guns lost in the final to a full strength Chelsea squad. Wenger had this to say to the club's website about his young lineup, "We have sold out and we will put out a good team. We want to give the opportunity to our fans to see some unfamiliar faces.” Nice to see the fans supporting the young side as well by selling out the Emirates Stadium.
So here is the 16 man Arsenal squad which will face Newcastle:
2 - Abou Diaby
8 - Lassana Diarra
15 - Denilson
17 - Alexandre Song
21 - Lukasz Fabianski (GK)
26 - Nicklas Bendtner
27 - Emmanuel Eboue
30 - Armand Traore
31 - Justin Hoyte
32 - Theo Walcott
39 - Henri Lansbury
40 - Vito Mannone (GK)
41 - Gavin Hoyte
42 - Fran Merida
Some familiar names and some not so familiar names in the squad. I am really looking forward to seeing how Fabianski does between the sticks, here's hoping he gets a victory with the happy bonus of a clean sheet.
