This is the first of several Meet the Users. In each version, I will be interviewing a particular user. This will allow all users to know each other better. The innaugural post interviews Insan
1. How did you learn about ArmchairGM?
DNL read my blog from somewhere, I have no clue how he found it but he did. He then e-mailed me to join because I'd have guarenteed readers, which is true. So I stuck around.
2. So far, what is your favorite feature about the site, editing, commenting, rating, or posting?
You definitely have to go with posting and commenting. The rest of the stuff are nice things to have but without posting or commenting, the site would be nothing. Posting/commenting is kind of like Jordan, and the rest of the features are Pippen, Kerr, Rodman, Grant, Longley, Kukoc, etc. The features are nice to have and it makes the site stronger but without Jordan, the site is nothing.
3. What is your favorite sports moment? Why?
My favorite sports moment would either be Vince Young's performance in the 2006 Rose Bowl or LJ's 4 point play in the '99 playoffs against the Pacers. I couldn't really appreciate the Yankees dynasty too much because even though I was a Yankee fan, I didn't appreciate baseball as a sport until 2001... when the Yankees broke my heart. :-\
3. Will the Yankees make the playoffs in 2007? If so will A-Rod choke like a pornstar again?
This question isn't very easy to answer. While I like to be as unbiased as possible, I can't ignore the fact that the Yankees haven't missed the playoffs since '94. (They weren't in the '94 playoffs because of the strike but they won the division that year) I'd have to say yes they will make the playoffs just because their offense is just too powerful and everyone wants to write them off because of their first half underachievement. The fact of the matter is the Yankees are known are playing their best baseball at the end of the season. Currently, the Yanks are 7 back from the Sox and 3 back from the Wild Card. That's close enough to catch up.
As for A-Rod choking, that answer is a lot simpler... yes he will choke in the playoffs.
4. How did you become a Texas Longhorns fan living in Brooklyn?
My dad lives in Austin, Texas and he got his law degree from there. When I came to visit him when I was younger, he always took me to games and when I wasn't there he'd call me once a week and we'd talk for a good hour or so mostly dealing with the Longhorns. Huge fan of them even after they rejected me when I applied for admission.
5. If you could change one thing about ArmchairGM what would it be?
Even though I like AGM the way it is, it would definitely have to be the amount of discipline enforced onto users. I understand no one wants to be an asshole, but when you have guys that argue with each other and fight with each other and take it to a whole other level, something needs to be done. Sports arguments are fine and it's ok for it to get heated once in a while but the stupid comments and the personal comments need to be controlled. That and all the porn and semi-porn on the site. I'd like to see a 3 strikes and you're out policy. No banning immediately, but after 3 offenses, lifetime ban. The reason for that being that there should be no room for immaturity. A lot of these guys claim they are 30 or have jobs or have wives and kids but they act like 12 year olds. I personally think they secretly are, but that's neither here nor there. The point is, eliminate immaturity with an iron fist. Having said that, overall, I like the site and the people that run it do a very good job.
Glad to be part of the interview. Thanks, Insan
