Meet the Users: I am a cpcp

by The Beast and I am a cpcp

I am a cpcp didn't mind LeBron sporting the Yankees hat.
I am a cpcp didn't mind LeBron sporting the Yankees hat.

This is the ninth edition of the popular Meet the Users series, where The Beast will be interviewing a particular ArmchairGM user. The goal for the series is to allow all users to know each other better. The ninth edition goes to I am a cpcp

1. How did you learn about ArmchairGM?

I was tipped off in either May or June of 2006 by my college buddy friskysman, who's no longer active on the site. We were both trying to get sports blogs off the ground and found AGM an easier place to write (vent) about our beloved Cleveland teams. It was also a great place to teach and learn about both sports and writing, two of my favorite things, so I've been a regular for quite some time now.

2. Over the past year ArmchairGM has undergone some major changes. Do you miss anything about the old format? FanBoxes? Showdowns? News? Game Summaries?

It's amazing how much the site has changed since I started. Call me a 'Chair Geezer, but I often miss the raw, do-it-yourself wikifiying that used to be ArmchairGM. I loved figuring out the wiki language. Today's AGM generation is spoiled with all these fancy schmancy, Facebook-esqe setups. But as long as it takes me to get used to all the new stuff (us 25-year-olds get set in our ways) I'm really excited about the new features (like gifts to send Pean when the Yankees lose) and the number of new users and what a lot of them are bringing to the site. I also miss the time when Manny was retired. (Just kidding.)

3. Who will win a Super Bowl First: the Browns or Lions?

The Browns, quite possibly by the end of the decade. The franchise has bottomed out and is quickly on the rise as the rest of the division has fallen. Throw in a lucky break here and there (which admittedly isn't the Browns specialty) and the Lombardi trophy might visit Cleveland at last. The Lions will never win a Super Bowl. Unless, of course, the league outlaws offensive lines and requires teams to line up with a QB and 10 wide receivers on both sides of the ball.

4. A lot of Cleveland sports fans were mad to see LeBron James wearing a Yankees cap. Do you mind or even care? I believe that he's a Yankees fan, so the hat doesn't bother me. Bron Bron is only a few years younger than me and when I was a kid I liked the Indians but found other, more exciting teams to follow as well. So, no, it didn't really bother me. Although I did join the "Even LeBron Can't Save the Yankees" group on Facebook until the end of the series. Take that, King James.

5. The Indians have looked good so far in the playoffs. Can they really win it all? Why not? They have a good start to the series (2-1 at writing time). They have the same mix of young studs and veteran talent they had in '95 and '97 with the added element of a complete, solid pitching staff that they were missing in the 90s. Although I am concerned that it looks like the Tribe would be playing the Rockies and they've already lost to Florida, the Rockies expansionmate (if that's a word), in a Series.

I was surprised it wasn't included, but Falcon is right. That will go with me (and the one other person that knows what it means') grave. I still have no idea why I signed up with this name.

Another great article by The Beast. He gave the interview at the right time: right when the Indians were in the playoffs, and a lot of stuff has been happening in Cleveland. Good stuff, Beast. Good to know more about you, I am a cpcp.

It's also good to hear that I am a cpcp doesn't care whether LeBron was a Yankees fan or not. If you're loyal to your team, it's fine. I got a friend of mine who lives in Massachusetts who's a Yankees fan. Do I like it? No! Do I support her opinion? No! But, she's loyal to her team, and it's not like she's a bandwagoner or anything.

CPCP, there still is a lot more you can do if you understand the wiki functionality of the site. It allows you to work with the templates and pages that the founders have all ready created, and work with them to create new pages. you'll see whenever I bust out the games homepage

I have decided to take a break from the Live Blog of the ALCS game 4 to comment on this, and to tell The Beast how great this series is, and I enjoy reading about the other users.

This is a great series. cpcp is a good writer, and a good AGM. But, and I feel kind of bad about saying this, but if you grew up in a major league city, then that city's team, should be your team. I don't know, I guess I'm just an old school geezer.

No one got to choose what teams they were born closest to. Geographical alliances is a marketing ploy! People should be encouraged to pick whatever team for whatever reasons they want! Dammit, this is America!!! (Sorry, rest of you not in America)

How do you decide which team is yours if the city has more than one team? new York, Chicago, LA, SF-Oakland, etc... Or of you live DIRECTLY between two teams, say in Missouri between the Cardinals and Royals? HOW do you choose then? Check and mate...

Good points. I grew up in Columbia, Missouri, directly between St. Louis and Kansas City. But both my parents grew up in St. Louis and trained me well. But after living in KC for 26 years, I'm a KC fan. But I still love the Cardinals.

I agree with Donatevo you may have other teams on the side but when it comes down to it you gotta go with your home team.

Great stuff once more from the Beast and for this installment from cpcp. I always figured that you were destined to follow a certain team, be it your home team or not, what I can't figure is when people say they support more than one team in the same league, I could never do that.

For MLB, NBA and NFL I have my one team I'm a full-fledged fan of and then a few other teams I enjoy following for various reasons be it a handful of players I like, a coach I respect or just the way they handle their franchise. To me, if you're a fan of a sports/league, you'll find a lot of things you'll like beyond just that one team you support.

There will be many different opinions on this, but for once I agree with Manny, support the team you want to; for whatever reason.

Good stuff. Nice to interact with you during the ALDS, cpcp. Here's hoping the Tribe finish off the Red Sox later tonight!
