by The Beast and I am a cpcp
This is the ninth edition of the popular Meet the Users series, where The Beast will be interviewing a particular ArmchairGM user. The goal for the series is to allow all users to know each other better. The ninth edition goes to I am a cpcp
1. How did you learn about ArmchairGM?
I was tipped off in either May or June of 2006 by my college buddy friskysman, who's no longer active on the site. We were both trying to get sports blogs off the ground and found AGM an easier place to write (vent) about our beloved Cleveland teams. It was also a great place to teach and learn about both sports and writing, two of my favorite things, so I've been a regular for quite some time now.
2. Over the past year ArmchairGM has undergone some major changes. Do you miss anything about the old format? FanBoxes? Showdowns? News? Game Summaries?
It's amazing how much the site has changed since I started. Call me a 'Chair Geezer, but I often miss the raw, do-it-yourself wikifiying that used to be ArmchairGM. I loved figuring out the wiki language. Today's AGM generation is spoiled with all these fancy schmancy, Facebook-esqe setups. But as long as it takes me to get used to all the new stuff (us 25-year-olds get set in our ways) I'm really excited about the new features (like gifts to send Pean when the Yankees lose) and the number of new users and what a lot of them are bringing to the site. I also miss the time when Manny was retired. (Just kidding.)
3. Who will win a Super Bowl First: the Browns or Lions?
The Browns, quite possibly by the end of the decade. The franchise has bottomed out and is quickly on the rise as the rest of the division has fallen. Throw in a lucky break here and there (which admittedly isn't the Browns specialty) and the Lombardi trophy might visit Cleveland at last. The Lions will never win a Super Bowl. Unless, of course, the league outlaws offensive lines and requires teams to line up with a QB and 10 wide receivers on both sides of the ball.
4. A lot of Cleveland sports fans were mad to see LeBron James wearing a Yankees cap. Do you mind or even care? I believe that he's a Yankees fan, so the hat doesn't bother me. Bron Bron is only a few years younger than me and when I was a kid I liked the Indians but found other, more exciting teams to follow as well. So, no, it didn't really bother me. Although I did join the "Even LeBron Can't Save the Yankees" group on Facebook until the end of the series. Take that, King James.
5. The Indians have looked good so far in the playoffs. Can they really win it all? Why not? They have a good start to the series (2-1 at writing time). They have the same mix of young studs and veteran talent they had in '95 and '97 with the added element of a complete, solid pitching staff that they were missing in the 90s. Although I am concerned that it looks like the Tribe would be playing the Rockies and they've already lost to Florida, the Rockies expansionmate (if that's a word), in a Series.
