This is the sixteenth edition of the popular Meet the Users series, where The Beast will be interviewing a particular ArmchairGM user. The goal for the series is to allow all users to know each other better. The sixteenth edition goes to Erooster
1. How did you learn about ArmchairGM?
As it has been for most users, Dan found me. I was writing on a blog with one of my best friends, that was titled ‘’El Jocko’’. After several months of pulling double duty, I decided to write here full time. Incidentally, my friend finally joined ArmchairGM under the user name Rocketscientist.
2. You grew up in Central California yet did not become a 49er or Raider fan? How come? Do you agree with the notion that fans should be forced to like their hometown teams?
Like a lot of things in my life, I don’t like to do or be like everyone else. If you notice my profile, you will see that I root for no California pro teams in any sport. In the instance of football, I became interested in the game in 1976, but followed no particular team until I saw the Seahawks beat the Raiders in Oakland in 1978 (for the second time that season). From that time on, I have been a loyal fan of the team. I think that it is ridiculous to be forced to be a fan of your local home team. Why be like every other person, when being different is so much more fun.
3. Under Pat Hill, Fresno State has been really close to winning the WAC and crashing the BCS party. Will either of those two things happen with Hill at the helm?
Fresno State is always a contender to win the WAC. The past few years have been tough. I think that better positional players are starting to come to Fresno State to play for Pat Hill, so some year soon I could see the ‘Dogs winning the WAC and crashing the BCS. Fresno State has always been known for producing NFL caliber receivers and backs, but just recently other positional players have come out. Like a lot of things, it takes the right personnel and the right timing. Hill has been great for Fresno and I believe that he will lead the team to winning the WAC sometime soon.
4. The Canadian Football League (CFL) is a hard sport to follow due to the way it's televised in the states. How did you become such a big fan of the league?
The CFL was once shown on ESPN, back in the 1980’s. Back then, ESPN was relatively new and showed all kinds of great non-US sports. That was when I got interested in the Canadian game. I could see football during the early to mid-summer, rather than watching another boring baseball game. Not only was it football, but it was a different game of football. I chose to follow the Calgary Stampeders in 1986, a year after the club almost folded due to declining attendance and financial issues.
5. As a CFL fan, explain how Americans could follow and support the CFL?
There are several ways to accomplish this task.
First, contact your local cable or satellite provider and ask them to carry the America One feed of the league. Comcast cable is the major provider for most US markets. A suggestion for a CFL season package for your area would be helpful.
Second, follow the CFL at www.cfl.ca < http://www.cfl.ca/ >. This is the official website for the league and the source for all things relating to the league.
Third, join a CFL fantasy league. Next season, I will be hosting a CFL fantasy league for ArmchairGM users. Keep an eye out for it.
Fourth, purchase some CFL gear. Wearing a jersey for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Phoenix will get people to ask questions and help promote the league.
Fifth, help build the encyclopedia of ArmchairGM on the CFL. As of today, nearly all of the player pages have been completed, at least on a basic level. Volunteer some time to improve the pages.
I want to thank Joey for the chance to be interviewed in this series.
