This just came in, Josh McCown is expected to start at least week one for the Oakland Raiders against his former team the Detroit Lions. I don't think McCown will last long, by week 5, maybe 6 he will probably be benched for recently acquired Daunte Culpepper. The only reason, I think, that McCown will be the starter, is because he was with the team the whole offseason, and he is comfortable with the system, and looks like he is more mobile as of right now. If you're a Raiders/Culpepper fan don't sweat it, McCown should be benched pretty quickly. I think McCown will have a nice start considering Oakland starts off the season at home against the Detroit Lions, and a farely easy schedule until their bye week (week 5). The first four games for the Raiders are as follows: (1) v.s. DET, (2) at DEN, (3) v.s. CLE, (4) at MIA, (5) BYE.
McCown's past doesn't look too promising up against Culpepper's. We didn't even mention the Oakland Raiders QB of the future, who is currently unsigned, JaMarcus Russell, who is hurting himself by not signing, instead holding out. At this time next year, who knows, Russell could be the guy in Oakland, and he could be a superstar. If Russell doesn't stop being a punk, and F#@$ing sign already, we may never know. Here is what McCown looks like compared to Culpepper last year, and in his career.
2006 Stats
- McCown (ARI)- 2 games: 0 Pass ATT
- Culpepper (MIA)- 4 games: 81 for 134, 929 Pass Yds, 2 TD, 3 INT, 60.4 PCT, 77.0 Rating
Career Stats
- McCown (DET, ARI)- 5 years (35 games): 498 for 862, 5,431 Pass Yds, 25 TD, 29 INT, 57.8 PCT, 72.1 Rating
- Culpepper (MIN, MIA)- 8 years (85 games): 1,759 for 2,741, 21,091 Pass Yds, 137 TD, 89 INT, 64.2 PCT, 90.8 Rating
And, yes I am so excited for the NFL season to start, that I am writing about the Oakland Raiders QB situation.
