- Boston Red Sox submarine pitcher, Carl Mays, beaned Tris Speaker in the head. Mays denied that the pitch was intentional. Two years later he would hit Ray Chapman in the head, killing him.

- The Chicago Police raided the bleachers in Wrigley Field and arrested two dozen Chicago Cubs' fans for gambling.

- Babe Ruth and Bob Meusel returned to the Yankees lineup. They had been suspended on October 16, 1921.

- The Cleveland Indians beat the New York Yankees, 10-9, after trailing them by a score of 9-4 heading into the 9th. The winning run is scored as Tris Speaker maded it all the way home from first base on a single.

- Taft Wright, of the Chicago White Sox set an American League record with an RBI in 13 consecutive games.

- Chicago Cubs pitcher, Claude Passeau, committed an error for the first time in 273 chances. He had gone nearly five years without making one.

- Buddy Rosar, catcher for the Philadelphia A's, committed his first error in 147 games.

- The New York Yankees beat the Chicago White Sox, 13-2. Joe DiMaggio was 5-5 in the game, hitting 4 extra base hits for the 4th time in his career and hitting for the cycle for the second time. He had 2 homers and drove in 6.

- The New York Yankees fell to 12-19 on the year with a 13-6 loss to the Detroit Tigers. It would be the first time that they were in last place since May 25, 1940, nearly 19 years previous. They would rebound to finish 79-75, third in the AL.

- Steve Carlton took the loss as the San Diego Padres outscored the Philadelphia Phillies, 5-0, but Carlton struck out 4 batters moving him past Walter Johnson into second place on the all-time strikeout list with 3511.

- Roger Clemens went 7 innings, allowing 4 runs, as the Boston Red Sox beat the Minnesota Twins, 5-4. It was Clemens's first career victory.

- A game between the Cleveland Indians and Milwaukee Brewers is rained out. It was the first rainout in the major leagues that season, halting a record streak of 485 games played without one.

- The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Chicago White Sox, 5-1 to end their 12 game losing streak and bring their record to 21-15. They had begun the season with 13 straight wins.

- Mike Schmidt hit a 2-run blast off of Andy Hawkins. The homerun was the 535th of his career, moving him into 8th place on the all-time list.

- Jeff Reardon recorded his 300th career save.

- Marty Cordova hit his 5th homerun in 5 games as he ties a rookie record for homers in consecutive games.

- Frank Thomas reached base safely for the 15th consecutive plate appearance. In the 15 trips to the plate, over 4 games, he was 10-10 with 5 BB's.

- Robin Ventura, playing third base for the New York Mets, hit a grandslam in both games of a doubleheader, becoming the first player in major league history to do so.

- Rickey Henderson hit his 76th career leadoff homerun in his first at bat for the Seattle Mariners.

- Barry Bonds became the 13th player in major league history to hit a home run in 4 consecutive at bats.

- Mike Matheny, the catcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, handled his 1295th chance without making an error, setting a major league record for catchers.

- Barry Bonds hit home run number 714 off of Brad Halsey of the Oakland Athletics. The shot tied Babe Ruth for second on the all-time list.
- A.J. Pierzynski crashes into Marty Barrett while trying to score with Barrett blocking the plate. Pierzynski is safe and Barrett is upset. When he gets up he takes a swing at the surprised Pierzynski prompting the benches for the Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox to clear.
