Born on September 21, 1910 in Holden, West Virginia, Max Butcher (Albert Maxwell Butcher) played for the Brooklyn Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies and Pittsburgh Pirates over the course of his 10 year career. Butcher broke into the bigs on April 20, 1936 with the Brooklyn Dodgers, and put up a 3.96 ERA in 147.2 innings pitched in 1936, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Max Butcher's best season was 1941, when he posted a 3.05 ERA, won 17 games and struck out 61 batters.
