Max Bishop (Max Frederick Bishop) was born on September 5, 1899 in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. He made his Major League debut on April 15, 1924 for the Philadelphia Athletics. In 1924, his rookie year, he hit .255 with 2 home runs and 21 RBI. Bishop played for the Philadelphia Athletics and Boston Red Sox over the course of his 12 year career.

Most people believe that Max Bishop's best season was 1928, when he hit for a .316 average and knocked in 50 runs.

  • Sold by Baltimore (International) to Philadelphia Athletics for $20,000 (December 10, 1923).
  • Traded by Philadelphia Athletics with Lefty Grove and Rube Walberg to Boston Red Sox in exchange for Bob Kline, Rabbit Warstler and $125,000 (December 12, 1933).

  • Won the World Series with the Philadelphia A's in 1929 and 1930. Made it to the World Series in 1931, but lost
  • Was in the top ten in OBP 8 times. His .423 career mark is 18th best all-time
  • Has 1153 walks in his career, good enough for 56th all-time
  • Had an OBP of at least .398 for 10 straight seasons, every year of his career but the first and the last
