On Friday Night, the Dallas Mavericks Defeated the Houston Rockets 95-74. With the win, the Mavericks maintained their status as the best team in the NBA and set a new franchise record, winning their 17th consecutive contest at American Airlines Center.
In a game that seemed to go back and forth between both squads, the Mavericks finally made a huge run in the third quarter, going 16-0 at one point and outscoring the Rockets 20-5 in the last past of the quarter.
After the run, the Rockets were simply outmatched as Tracy McGrady was held to only 20 points (He scored 45 points in their last encounter with the Mavericks at the AAC.)
For the Mavs, the combination of better defense, fast break points and bench scoring helped their run and helped them finally finish off the pesky Rockets, who failed to win any game against Dallas at the American Airlines Center this season.
After Friday’s Game, the Mavs go on a three game road trip, stopping in Philly on Sunday to take on the 76ers.
Notes:
-J-Ho is headed to Vegas after all
After initially being snubbed by fans and then by All-Star Coaches, the NBA Commissioner stepped up and named Josh Howard an injury replacement for next week’s All-Star Game in Las Vegas.
To celebrate, Howard scored a team high 22 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.
Now, if you would have asked me if Howard would have made the All-Star Game, I would have told you that Howard has no chance, especially after his fate was left in the hands of the commissioner, Mr. David Stern, someone who has an owner in Mark Cuban that likes to be a pest of the league.
Yet, with the Injury to Carlos Boozer and the chance that Carmelo Anthony will replace Allen Iverson next week, the spot opened up for Howard.
One suggestion though: If you can a maximum of 15 players on the roster of an NBA Club at one time, why is the league trimming down the All-Star Game Rosters to 12 for each conference? That line of thinking does not make sense, especially with the game in the entertainment capital of the country.
The league needs to show off the talents off their stars, not keep them under wraps by only including 12 players on each conference All-Stars Roster.
-Injury Updates
DJ Mbenga suffered an ACL Injury on Wednesday versus the Grizzlies, sidelining him for the rest of the season. In his place, Pops Mensah-Bonsu has been recalled from the Fort Worth Flyers of the NBDL. An NBDL All-Star, Mensah-Bonsu will be seen as a depth player and should only see time if both Dampier and Diop are in foul trouble or if they need six more fouls against another opposing center who can’t shoot free throws (I.E.: Shaq)
