Thursday Night at American Airlines Center, the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Miami Heat 112-100. With the win, the Mavs joined only three other teams in NBA History with 3 winning streaks of 10 or more games.
Powering the Mavericks was Dirk Nowitzki, who scored 31 points and 11 rebounds on a night where the team honored him as an MVP Candidate. Helping the Mavs was Jason Terry who scored all of his 21 points in the 1st half.
Thursday was supposed to be an NBA Finals rematch, but the game failed to provide any sizzle as Dwyane Wade dislocated his right shoulder vs. the Rockets on Wednesday, giving an Injury Bug Riddled Heat Team only one dominant option, Shaquille O'Neal.
Shaq was his usual, scoring 17 points and grabbing 8 rebounds on Thursday. Yet, it wasn't enough as the Mavericks built a 30 point lead by the end of the 3rd quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Heat made the game interesting, pulling within 10 points at one point with all of their starters on the bench. Yet, the Mavericks held in the Heat in check for the final six minutes of the contest and showing that they can defend their home court and put aside a terrible game 3 of the 2006 NBA Finals where they gave up a 13 point lead in the 4th quarter to the Heat.
With the win, Dallas pushed their edge in the Western Conference Standings to 4 games over Phoenix and 8.5 over San Antonio.
