Maurice Clarett: Trouble Might Actually Be His Middle Name

Maurice Clarett running afoul of the law again saddens me. He had an amazing opportunity to dramatically improve his life through football. But there are no shortcuts -- no matter how talented you are, the rules aren't going to change for you. And I have a sneaking suspicion had he been able to enter the NFL, he'd still have problems. Laurence Phillips anyone? I only remember him because the Rams drafted him and Dick Vermeil made every effort to be the guy's surrogate father. These cases are always disheartening because you can see these young men being their own worst enemy. It's a waste of talent and more than that, it's just another damaged man in the system. We should all be saddened by that. (excerpt taken from my blog) He doesn't even realize how big of an opportunity he has squandered. Failing in Denver was ridiculous -- they are known for making stars out of their running backs. I hate to see anybody waste their potential and this guy has become an expert at it.

Agreed. I think he would've been like that in any case, only with way more money. He would've made Chris Perry look like AC Green.

imagine how he'll feel at 28 or 30 when he realizes how much he squandered. i don't feel sorry for him but i do really hate to see people blow opportunities. especially ones that will make them millionaires.

Its amazing to see the decent of a man who had the world at the palm of his hand such a short time ago. However, when you see the repeated acts of stupidity Clarrett has commited its hard to believe that all this happened because he did not stay in school or make the NFL. Some people just cannot function in in society Clarrett is one of those people.

i mean when you have four loaded guns, including an ak and baretta (what i heard, whether it is true or not is debatable) and have a bullet-proof vest on and bottles of alcohol in your car, you have no defense. its not like the guy is just bringing that stuff so he can have a party! he is a bad seed, and i dont think leaving college is the cause of his bad nature, but he belongs in a cell, where he can be watched on at all times

Clarett's descent has to be one of the more tragic stories in the history of sports. What a waste of talent and potential. Especially when he failed in Denver, who seem to produce running backs like Kraft produces cheese.
