Born on August 9, 1958 in Pasadena, California, Matt Young (Matthew John Young) played for the Seattle Mariners, Los Angeles Dodgers, Oakland Athletics, Boston Red Sox and Cleveland Indians over the course of his 10 year career. Young broke into the bigs on April 6, 1983 with the Seattle Mariners, and put up a 3.27 ERA in 203.2 innings pitched in 1983, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Matt Young's best season was 1986, when he posted a 3.82 ERA, notched 13 saves and struck out 82 batters.
