Matt Kinzer (Matthew Roy Kinzer) was born on June 17, 1963 in Indianapolis, Indiana. After going to high school at Norwell (Ossian, IN), Kinzer attended Purdue University. Kinzer made his professional debut in the NFL in 1987 with the Detroit Lions. He played for the Detroit Lions for his entire 1 year career.

Following his brief career in the NFL, Kinzer became a baseball player. He played for the St. Louis Cardinals and Detroit Tigers over the course of his 2 year career. Kinzer broke into the bigs on May 18, 1989 with the St. Louis Cardinals.
