Born on June 21, 1866 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Matt Kilroy (Matthew Aloysius Kilroy) played for the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Reds, Cincinnati Porkers, Washington Senators, Louisville Colonels and Chicago Orphans over the course of his 10 year career. Kilroy broke into the bigs on April 17, 1886 with the Baltimore Orioles, and put up a 3.37 ERA in 583 innings pitched in 1886, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Matt Kilroy's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1886, when he posted a 3.37 ERA, won 29 games and struck out 513 batters. However, others believe that it was 1887, when he posted a 3.07 ERA, won 46 games and struck out 217 batters.
