Matt Antonelli
[edit] Biography
San Diego Padres Prospect
[edit] Scouting Report
Antonelli was drafted as a third baseman and in his first pro season went homerless in 205 AB's. Moved to second in instructional league, Antonelli took off, and ended last season with 21 homers between Hi Class A and Double A. He has no plus tools and has to grind every at bat and every play to stand out, which he does. Still learning second base and while overall skills are now below average, he is a fast learner and should be average across the board. Antonelli struggled offensively in the Arizona Fall League this past fall but showed improvement defensively. With Marcus Giles out of the picture the major league job is Antonelli's to lose.
