Masahide Kobayashi was born on May 24, 1974 in Japan. He was the closer for the Chiba Lotte Marines, and signed with the Cleveland Indians as a free agent during the 2007 off-season.

- During the recent playoffs in Japan, Chiba Lotte Marines manager, Bobby Valentine, noted that Kobayashi keeps "looking better every time out."[1]
