[edit] Takes No Hitter Into Seventh
[Philadelphia, April 30.] Jamie Moyer proved again he still has plenty of gas in the tank. On Sunday, Moyer took a no-hit, no-run bid into the top of the seventh inning, leading the Phils to a 6-1 win over the Marlins Sunday at Citizens' Bank Park.
Moyer also added a double and the single with the bat in the winning effort.
Moyer, who has been widely reported as providing important veteran leadership to young Phils' arms, including future ace lefty Cole Hamels, faced the minimum number of Florida batter through six innings, and was lifted in the eight after giving up a walk to Marlin first baseman Brett Boone and a single to Joe Borchard. Moyer walked two and had five strikeouts, and improved his recordd to 3-1 with a 2.65 ERA. Phils setup man Antonio Alfonseca surrendered a run in the ninth on two Marlin doubles, one from shortstop Hanley Ramirez, and another to Josh Willingham.
The Phils jumped to a one - run lead in the first after shortstop Jimmy Rollins singled, stole second, and scored on an RBI single to right by Chase Utley. The Phils stole four bases Sunday, with two swipes by Rollins and a steal each by Chase Utley and Shane Victorino.
The Phils also received much needed help off of their bench, getting a two-run, two-out single in the sixth by part time outfielder Jason Werth, and a three run double by pinch hitter Greg Dobbs in the eighth.
Marlins third baseman Miguel Cabrera, who came into the came hitting .364, and had a five-hit performance here Saturday night , went 1-4 with an RBI.
Notes. . . . Phils' SS Jimmy Rollins came into the game with 23 runs, ranked second in runs in the NL. . .Rollins' stolen base in the first extended his successful steals streak, which dates back to June 25, 2006, when he stole a base in a game against the New York Mets. . . Phils' OF Aaron Rowand, lost a 16 game hitting streak on Sunday. He had been hittling .435 in those 16 games. . . Marlins' righty starter Wes Obermueller pitched well, until he surrendered the single to Werth, and then a walk, before being lifted for Marlins' reliever Kevin Gregg.
