Born on September 12, 1956 in Houston, Texas, Mark Thurmond (Mark Anthony Thurmond) played for the San Diego Padres, Detroit Tigers, Baltimore Orioles and San Francisco Giants over the course of his 8 year career. Thurmond broke into the bigs on May 14, 1983 with the San Diego Padres, and put up a 2.65 ERA in 115.1 innings pitched in 1983, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Mark Thurmond's best season was 1984, when he posted a 2.97 ERA, won 14 games and struck out 57 batters.
