Mark Prior and Kerry Wood: It's time to cut the cord

Poor Cubs fans. I mean it's not enough that most seasons their team sucks, or that even when they're good they end up blowing chunks, but they also have to deal with a "what if" factor that never seems to end. I'm of course talking about their star pitching duo of Kerry Wood and Mark Prior that was supposed to anchor their staff for years to come. Basically these two guys have the letters DL stamped on their forehead and it's that nasty ink that takes forever to rub off.

There is no denying the talent these guys have. They've got great stuff. Tantalizing great stuff. So good that you want to keep believing that someday they'll make it an entire season healthy. Maybe it will happen. Maybe they'll eventually catch some luck. Then Cub fans will be glad they have them on their team.

But that is foolish thinking. It's a dream that will never be. What is going on now is just cruel and unusual punishment for their fans. The Cubs need to get these guys healthy and trade them as fast as they can. If they get even a whiff of a decent offer for either guy (and by decent offer I mean anyone that can hold a glove) they need to act calm, agree to the trade, and then run wildly down the corporate offices screaming, "free at last, free at last, thank God almighty, free at last".

Prior's latest trip to the DL is proof enough that enough is enough. Sure these guys may end up on another team and never get hurt again in their careers. Jessica Alba also might give me call one of these days and tell me she has always wanted to meet me in person. It could happen.

I think Cubs fans would rather have them on their roster and hurt than trade them. You know if the Cubs would trade them they'd end up with 25 wins each and chase each other for the strikeout record.

Yeah, I don't think they would trade them, because having guys with that much potential at least gives the fans some hope that maybe one day they will get healthy.

I just wanna throw out that the last paragraph was my favorite part of the article considering we know Prior and Wood are going to be plagued by injuries forever.

Man I remember seeing the Cubs vs. Braves in the playoffs, and Mark Prior was pitching. He was utterly unhittable. The noise was electrifying, and I guess the Cubs are hoping they'll get to see Prior dominate in more than one season. 7 DL trips in five seasons...WOW. What are he and Wood doing-or rather, not doing- that makes them so vulnerable to getting hurt?

They should trade Prior and Wood to the Knicks.

How about putting Kerry Wood in the bullpen. Fewer Pitches? He could be an awesome closer.

Remember when the NLCS was heading back to Chicago for games 6 and 7 with Prior and Wood on the mound? Did anyone in America honestly believe the Marlins were going to win that series at that point? The answer is no, and there's probably a Cub fan out there right now sitting in a bathroom stall with a loaded .38 reading and re-reading a printed copy of this post. Sorry Cubs fans. Sorry.

Honestly? Yes, because I'm a Marlins fan, and what is that motto? Oh yeah, "Ya gotta believe." Did I think for one minute that the Braves would beat the Cubs? Nope, never.

What's the difference between Jenna Jameson and Mark Prior? Jameson has a huge pussy, and Prior IS a huge pussy.

When you have managers like Don Baylor & Dusty Baker which both LOVE to abuse thier pitchers - that's what happens - massive amounts of trips to the DL to the point where they are no longer useful or even have any real trade value... when both Prior and wood came up, they were both dominate... Wood was a workhorse... Prior had a flawless delivery.... but then disaster - thier names: Larry Rothchild, Don Baylor & Dusty Baker... 110 pitch games... then 120... 130... 140... enough times doing that, guess what, arms gets blown out... elbows get shot to hell... TJS comes to play... never the same... while both need to go - so does Baker & Rothchild... I know, I know Nolan Ryan used to throw over 180 pitches consistantly for 20 years... but the last 15 years or so, pitchers are being developed differently - they're not "built" to handle the amount of stress that managers like Baker, etc want to put on them... that's what you call 'inability to manage'... to manage, you must know your players and what they're capable of doing... both Wood & Prior are incapable of going that distance... therefore, Baker doesn't know how to manage... if you don't know how to manage - you need to go... and yes, I am a Cubs fan and I want all the managers heads on a platter...

In my view, it's time to part with Wood and Prior. With the luck of this franchise, they may both end up having 20 wins with an ERA under 2.00 for other teams. No team has it worse than the Cubs. And they dont have the White Sox to share their collective losing streaks anymore.

"There is no denying the talent these guys have. They've got great stuff." Prior's still got it. To the best of my memory, despite all his injuries he hasn't gone under the knife. But when is the last time Wood came into the game and completely overmatched a hitter. I think all his injuries have caught up to him. He just can't throw as hard as he did when he was a rookie phenom. He may never regain that stuff.

Wood should be traded and Prior kept. Also, we should stop having this arguement. It has gotten played out and tiresome.

No one would offer to even pay Kerry Wood's contract, much less provide a prospect in return. He's a free agent at the end of the year and that will surely end his time in Chicago.

Wood should and will be traded....problem for the flubs is that they won't get anyone worthwhile in the trade. I think Jessica Alba would be a more valuable asset to the flubs than wood and prior combined

Wood's and Prior's injuries have become played out and tiresome.

Cubs are a joke, the whole thing is hilarious.
